His father, Robert del Rosario, appeared in two films during his teen years, “Waywaya” and “Bagets,” albeit in small roles. Robert was being built up as a matinee idol, but his father put his foot down, “Study first.” Robert has an elder brother, Joey, who died of heart ailment a few years back at a relatively young age, 42.
A landscape artist, Robert, now 44, would rather forget his showbiz days. He accompanies son Martin now and then in taping and shooting, where he’s every so often asked to appear as a doctor or lawyer. But no thank you.
Robert’s sister is TV newscaster Connie Sison, Martin’s aunt.
I remember vaguely Joey and Robert, known then as Del Rosario brothers.
Martin’s mother Tet is the sister of character actress Ces Quesada. Tet is an executive of a big fruit juice company.

AWARDEE – At 18 going on 19, Martin has two acting awards to his name for the indie “Dagim,” directed by Joaquin Valdes, best new actor from the Philippine Movie Press Club (Star Awards) and breakthrough performance from Enpress (Golden Screen). In “Dagim” Martin got lost in the world of cannibals.
Martin was nominated best actor in a single performance by Star Awards for the “Headband” episode of “Maalaala Mo Kaya,” where he played a gay role along with Alwyn Uytingco and IC Mendoza.
Speaking of MMK, Martin gave another superb performance in the recent “Biblia” episode, playing a teener who found out his father is having an affair with his sweetheart. Star Awards for TV, take note. Noel Naval directed “Biblia.”
Martin is a Star Magic artist, Batch 15.
ABS-CBN and its movie arm, Star Cinema, should by all means give Martin del Rosario bigger and more mature roles. He’s an A-One actor, just like Coco Martin and Sid Lucero.

ADMIRABLE – But what is even more admirable about Martin is he’s a serious, conscientious student. Second year in business administration at the University of the Philippines.
His mom Tet said that no matter how tired and sleepy Martin is he reports to UP early in the morning. Tet recalls that at times he’d come home from taping or shooting at 6 in the morning. She’d tell him, “Wag ka na lang pumasok.”
But no matter how tired and sleepy Martin was, he’d dressed up for school.
Martin said he’s determined to finish college – even if it takes 10 years, the maximum time limit to finish a degree in UP.
Martin finished grade school (salutatorian) and high school (second honor) at Lourdes School in Quezon City.
Keep it up, Martin.
