Martin Del Rosario aims for leading man status. Gradually, he is moving away from his teeny bopper image and moving towards becoming a serious actor.
The young actor, who just finished his stint in the top-rating drama series Minsan Lang Kita libigin says he’s trying to land more mature roles similar to the one he played in Maalaala Mo Kaya in which he essayed the role of a boy who discovered his father has an extra-marital affair.
Martin was launched via Star Magic’s Star Circle Batch 15 and appeared in the teen- oriented show, Abt Ur Luv. Later, he bagged roles in top-rating dramas, like Boy Ramirez in Natutulog Ba Ang Diyos and Otap in Your Song presents: Boystown.
Last year, Martin earned praises for his role in the indie film Dagim, which eventally won for him two awards—Breakthrough Performance by an Actor from the Golden Screen Awards and New Movie Actor of the Year from the PMPC Star Awards for Movies.
He is even anticipated to follow in the footsteps of Coco Martin, who made waves as an actor in indie movies before being recognized in the mainstream entertainment industry.
Pretty big shoes to fill, but Martin is very thankful his works are being acknowledged. He will soon be appearing in a Star Cinema movie with Gerald Anderson and another soap opera soon.
Aside from acting, Martin also wants to finish college and is currently a freshman at the University of the Philippines in Diliman. He plans to graduate with a Broadcast Communications degree. “Maraming nagtatanong paano ko napagsasabay ang work and school. Mahirap talaga but it’s all worth it!” It only proves that Martin is an achiever and is determined to accomplish his goals.
Martin knows this is the time to shine, and with ABS-CBN and Star Magic supporting him, his biggest break will soon be just within reach.
